through membership with the following Professional Associations:
“AFCEA is an international organization that serves its members by providing a forum for the ethical
exchange of information. AFCEA is dedicated to increasing knowledge through the exploration of issues
relevant to its members in information technology, communications, and electronics for the defense,
homeland security and intelligence communities.”
The general purpose of the CDCA is to address issues and opportunities facing the Charleston, South
Carolina defense community. Specifically, the CDCA will: (1) perform as an advocacy group for the defense
industry in the Charleston metro area and other surrounding regions, (2) provide liaison with local, state, and
federal governmental agencies, elected officials, legislatures, and special groups and committees, (3) take
actions to develop or improve the local defense community’s ability to develop, attract, retain, and more
effectively execute business opportunities, and (4) to foster the increased and improved interaction
between defense contractors for accomplishment of better services to defense customers.
Women in Defense (WID), A National Security Organization, an affiliate of the National Defense Industrial
Association, cultivates and supports the advancement and recognition of women in all aspects of national
security. A non-profit organization, WID was established to provide women a formal environment for
professional growth through networking, education and career development.
Advancing the Region’s Economy – Enhancing a diverse regional economy and focusing on job growth initiatives to ensure a
sustainable economic climate.
The area's economic mix is diverse, combining one of the busiest container ports along the Southeast and Gulf coasts, a $3
billion visitor industry, one of the Southeast's most impressive medical hubs, a well-established base of national and
international manufacturers, as well as a large military presence. Arts, recreational and cultural opportunities are abundant,
including museums, music, dance and theater, as well as water sports, golf, hunting, fishing, horseback riding and more.
The region is fast becoming a recognized hot spot for new business investment, while also offering the national beauty, world-
class culture and historic charm that have made the area a world-recognized tourist destination. With a plentiful supply of
skilled workers, access to the global marketplace through its logistics and transportation system and a diverse portfolio of
location opportunities, the Charleston region offers the right combination for business.
ADVOCACY: Although the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce works closely with the U.S.
Chamber of Commerce and the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, every chamber of commerce
is independent of all others. The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce is a 501(c)(6) organization
and is comprised of more than 2,000 organizations that invest in our Chamber on an annual basis.
We are a broad-based business association with members across all business sectors.
Consequently, the positions we take have a consensus that reflects the needs of a wide range of
industries and that keep the overall interests of the business community in mind.
